MATCH REPORT
Hard edged, hard fought, hard tackling and - hard to believe we had such a fussy referee who clearly wanted to be the ‘main event’ (oh, and yes you’ve guessed right – he was being assessed). This was the contest to see if Taunton could swap places with Cinderford. If you had the video of this match its one that would never have made it onto your DVD player – but Taunton won’t be too concerned about that ; sometimes a win has to be got the ugly way and this brings the Taunton points total to 17 from the last seven matches.
Congratulations to a sizable travelling band of Cinderford supporters who were up for some good hearted chanting and banter throughout the match.
The first half saw Cinderford with the majority of the procession in the first 20 minutes and the game’s only chances coming in quick succession just before the break. For Cinderford Lewis Summers headed over when well placed and at the other end Craig Veal headed over.
Half Time: 0-0
Alexis Piper squandered a golden chance with a header from only yards out, then the only goal of the game came with a Taunton free kick some 30 metres from goal on the wide right. Up stepped skipper John Harris to hit the ball hard into the top far corner to leave Cinderford keeper Ben John not just with egg of his face but a full-English breakfast!
Chris McGrath came on with 30 minutes remaining to fit into his familiar centre-back role. Another clean sheet for Taunton’s 18-year old keeper Grant Fisher on loan from Torquay United.
The only blemish for Taunton was the second yellow card for Rodney Marsh for supposedly hindering the goalkeeper’s clearance some 5 minutes from the end.
With AFC Hayes also winning, the contest at the bottom is far from over. This win takes Taunton three points clear of Cinderford, but having played a game more.
Taunton: Grant Fisher, Danny Lane, Alexis Piper, Dan Short, Tim Legg, James Clough, Raiff Gwinnett Chris McGrath), John Harris (captain), Craig Veal, Rodney Marsh, Darren Rice. subs: Luke Cole, Dave Anthony – both not used

Points in the bag, thats the main celebration from this untidy match.Yes the ref was looking to wave his cards about and unfortunately Rod Marsh gave him all the chances to do so.That apart, can't say if the winner was a shot or a cross but it hit the net all the same. Great result for the Town well done lads......Lets call it a shot for the records!!

Sorry Lads and this is not sour grapes but how the hell have you won games recently playing football the way which you played last night, the long punt up the pitch and hope it hits a player.
As for the pitch what a disgrace possibly one of the worse we played on for many seasons.
Lets face it, the game had draw written all over it or 1 0 at the very least
But that was not shot on goal in a month of sundays ,more like a a miss kick off the side of his foot that managed to loop over and beat the keeper ,but hey thats football we would have been happy to have scored the same ,that also
must have been your only shot on target all night
Several of your comments refer to the ref and I agree 100% the game was all about him,as he stated to one of our players I "Boy i have been a ref for 18 years so I know what I am on about had that player returned the comment by saying " Listen boy I have been a player for 20 Years and understand the game " he would have been red carded for decent and respect.
Have to thank you for the hospitality we received from your board and the majority of your fans (apart from those Prats who felt he need to abuse our players leaving the pitch) and more importantly your players last night and hope you do us a favour during the run in to the end of the season but do feel that you as us will but in the dogfight to the end.
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
I am sure others will post but I believe our football has been a lot better than last night. The pitch probably dictated the tactics necessary. Sorry about the pitch but there are far too many games played on it and it's a problem which won't go away until fewer games are played.
Best of luck for rest of the season (but not as much as us
), we have both improved results recently so hopefully both of us will keep out of trouble.
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
Well Stu T, you obviously know very little about football and sport in general, it is sour grapes as we have 6 points out of 6 against you. We have played some great football this season and lost and drew, we did win ugly last night but it's the winning that counts not how we won. You are obviously a great footballing side which is why you are at the wrong end of the table like us so your are in no position to talk about how to play the game. Most of your players and bench were a disgrace to football last night squealing like girls, surrounding the ref, cheap little fouls and childish antics spring to mind. If you give it out i'm afraid in sport you are going to get it back and if you don't like it then play the game in the proper way. The ref was a disgrace but your "players" were trying to con him and get him to give yellows and reds at every opportunity and for that they should be ashamed, and the stick they got was i'm afraid fully justified.
As for the pitch it is poor but unfortunately, the powers that be at Taunton allow 120 games of football a year to be played and in March 24 games in 31 days. Again, before you criticse your pitch was disgrace a few seasons back flooding as soon as rain shower occured "people in glasshouses" !!
Your player who threw a ball at the back of one of our players proved what most of your players were - cowards, and yes if the ref had seen it he would have given him a straight red, god knows what would have happened in the reverse, we would have had to call an ambulance!! I like to think i am a fair person but i hate to see what i saw from Cinderford last night which was trying to con the referee by cheating, shame on your players who acted the way they did and we will be looking after ourselves and not trying to do anyone else favours. If you "play" like that every week you desrve to go down!
PS We should have been 2 up before the goal 3 and 4 yard headers missed, try watching the match it helps!

Jesus Sturms,
You have turned into me.
Have to agree not a pretty game to watch but we got that the all important result and crucial 3 points.
Just have to quote the Cinderford fan "Stu T" who said we were a long ball team.
Couldn't help but notice the silky skills and close ball control your No 10 showed last night it was like watching Brazil.
Wait a minute, am I mistaken but was it, that all you did for 75 mins or until he was taken off was lump the ball up to him to flick on.
Credit where credit due though - The one or two chances you did manage to get down the flanks and play good football you had to check back because your Number 10 was still treading water on the half way line even though he set off on Sunday !!!
Get over it - we took 6 points off of you - Fact !!
Taxi
P.S. Your supporters were a credit, very vocal and very very amusing.
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
Great minds hey Mitch?!! Agree about their fans, they were a credit to the club and put the rest of the Cinderford entourage to shame.
Did we forget to mention 7 unbeaten 17 out of 21 points? You keep giving it out and we'll keep responding.
Also forgot to mention good players with decent technique can play on anything. Perhaps watching the old games of the 70's and 80's on ESPN might help you Stu T, you have to adapt to different conditons and on the night we did it better fact 2 hey Mitch!!
I'm getting off my soap box before i get too excited!
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
Do you remember last seasons game when you beat us 2-0?
I played in that game and you gave us a lesson of how effective balls in the corner and balls over top can be. Thats all you did for 90 mins and you went away with a fully deserved win.
You showed everything you had last night in the first 20 mins and we rode the storm.
Absolutely right we played a lot of long balls in the first half and struggled to deal with the bully tactics of some of your players.
But 2nd half we came out, hade more possession and made a couple of decent chances.
We missed two headers from 5 yards out with just the keeper to beat against your 1 looping header against the top of the bar.
We put more balls in to the box than you and kept the ball better in the last 20 mins after taking grip of the game.
It was a cross, I can assure you of that! If you dont put the ball in those areas though you will never have a chance of getting that luck. (as you found out last night).
On the ref, I dont think your players any easier and in my opinion your left back was lucky not to go for a directed elbow first half and your keeper for his high foot aimed in at our striker in the last 10 which led to our player getting sent off.
It was a case last night of your players trying too hard to get in the refs head and bully our players. Sometimes it works but last night it didnt.
We didnt help our cause by picking up stupid bookings for diving, kicking the ball away, throwing the ball away and kicking out. They were stupid cards but we'll learn from them I hope.
I had a god bit of banter last night. Especially with your 14 i think it was who fancied himself a bit and had pleasure in telling me what a twat i was haha. Brilliant, I love that. And when you bought your man on up top to win headers etc. I give him some stick and let him have it a couple times off the ball. Its what you have to do to get inside peoples heads sometimes and fair play he was cool about it after and said I got to him.
Your guys tried abit too hard I think and unfortunately for you showed no quality at all even though you had a lot of ball first half.
I heard the ref say that by the way, but to be fair to him he took some shit of us too. (Rightly sometimes).
He did however do the right thing when i convinced him not to show your player a second yellow after calling him a F***** disgrace. You dont see many ref's choose the sensible option that often.
All in all. It was always going to be a scrappy game, but i honestly think we did just enough to deserve the 3pts. We made our chances and we missed them.
You think our pitch is bad, you wait til you play Bracknell Farm!
Best of luck for the rest of the season!
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
Great goal Johnno!! If their keeper had used his mouth instead of his hands he would have had a better chance of saving it!!
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
Back to scratch now Kev after my OG vs Tivvy!
I'm hoping theres a few more left this season tho.
It's nice to get in the goals, however they come. And even nicer to get a big 3 points last night.
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
Well that's what football is all about opinions ,and by Christ don't they differ to say the least but lads stop watching through those Rose Tinted Glasses they are messing with your heads
Couple of points
Conning the ref please how many times did your lads do down like squalling pigs yes surprised to say trying to con the ref , as for time wasting time credit to you, you got the hang of that , after you scored ,match balls seemed to have disappeared ,players kicking away (Some got caught and booked) even better Mr West got involved by kicking the match ball to our keeper when the ball had gone out in your half quality
The very best of luck for the rest of the season [/b]

Stu - can I make a suggestion ... "that you quietly disapper !" - you are clearly a poor loser - just like your keeper, who when our centre forward went up to shake his hand at the end and comiserate, your keeper's responese was to threatened to head-butt him ! BYE BYE ..
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
put your handbags down ladies !!
it was a poor poor game between two poor sides apart kyle Bassett cinderfords number 6 who had a decent game, and just thought i would point out cinderfords keeper ben john is a very good keeper, played at weston, and was also extremely close to signing for taunton under domone i believe, apart from that the most fun was watching the floodlights flicker due to an electrical problem in taunton !!
and thats the last your hear for me

Aston,
You complete bloody Hypocrite
Seven games unbeaten not a word, you then put the post above and happy days we have a Street Paradre in Taunton with banners, ticker tape the works.
Why are you still on here. In fact I will stop asking you on this forum.
Next time at Wordsworth I'll ask you direct, hopefully you will speak to me in the same manner you spoke to John Harris after the Cinderford game.
That would make my day.
Also didn't see your Ducati in the car park or do you just wear the jacket and flash a keyring trying to compensate for lack of other attributes.
Taunton 1 Cinderford 0 FT
Suppose john harris dint tell you that he muttered something under his breath when walking away something along the lines of lucky my right hand, Nope Thought Not,
and the fact every game ive watched Taunton this season they've been poor play like stoke ! BIG KICK,LONG THROW FACT ! Dont get the ball down and pass and i agree with what the cinderford manager said in his after match interview its hard to play football against a side that just want to knock it long !!
on the Ducati front its a sport called MOTORBIKE RACING,its a lot more exciting than watching Taunton "bore you to tears" town And What the actual heck has it got to do with you with what i should and shouldn't wear if i want to wear a Ducati motorbike jacket I will and funny enough i dont have a duke keyring, wish i did would like nice with the jacket would show what i thinks top dog in this country,
i seriously don't know how u think Taunton are the best team since slice bread, they have lost there best player Lloyd and im sure a higher club i.e Tiverton may come in for marshy and he'll be off to.
Ohh on the Wordsworth front i wont be down there EVER again so im sure you wont get your chance

Stu T: Football is all about opinions! You are right there! but after reading both of your posts thats the only valid point you came up with in your boring, sour grape postings on this site!
Time wasting is part of the game, if you are winning 1-0 as a home side you had better think that balls are going to come slower to the opposition, i mean why would anyone want to aid the away team in restarting quickly! thats just plain stupid!
No one declared that this game was a great spectacle! much to the contrary to be honest! the field is not in great shape, so who in their right mind wants to try and play attractive football??? your just asking for trouble! you play percentages and that is by playing channel balls and hitting target men! putting the ball in the oppositions half and picking up scraps their instead of trying to play in your own half losing it and having a nightmare!
In closing up this post i just want to say its clear you dont really know much about coaching or playing, so keep watching the game and enjoying it instead of analyzing and posting your comments on here, where they are not actually wanted!
Tada Jog on
