Taunton: L. Irish, Cole, Gwinett, Lane, Short, Clough, Butler, Harris (c), Veal, Piper, Rice
Subs: Peare, D. Anthony (on), Bailey. S. Anthony (on)

With McGrath and Rodney Marsh injured one of the central defender role was filled by Danny Lane but within 30 minutes Lane collected his second yellow card and Taunton played out the remainder of the match with ten.
Too painful to write a full report ... General consensus Alexis Piper and John Harris the pick of the first half in which Taunton contested the match for the first 20 minutes.

Half Time: 0-1

Pick of the players second half Craig Veale for some tireless running but most of this was in chasing down the play and trying to put defending players under pressure. Craig had the only two attempts on the Mangotsfield goal in the second half both of which brought good saves from the Mangotsfield keeper.
Three goals in some six minutes finished Taunton off and this must have felt like Groundhog Day for Manager Paul West.

Final Score: 4-0

And the taunts from the home supported of “Can we play you every week” summed up a poor performance.

Attendance: 161

If You Aren't Willing To Make The Effort To Attend Games Don't Be Commenting On Issues You Know Nothing About. I've Just Got In And It Was A Dismal Game Between Two Poor Teams.

Danny Lane Started At Centre Half (Surprising I Know) And Thought He Was Excellent. The First Yellow Came From A 50 / 50 He Won, Yet The Mangotsfield Player Decided To Make A Meal Of It, The Second He Had Little Choice Than To Take The Man Down To Stop Him Scoring.

Dan Short On The Other Hand Was Skinned By 38 Year Old Michael Meaker Who Was Then Able To Pull The Ball Back To Score. For F**cksake Just Chop Him Down And Re - Group. The Lads Need To Learn When And Where To Make Fouls.

As Much As You Like Having A Pop At Westy Aston (Although Myself A Bit Bemused By Certain Tactics Today) All He Can Do Is Pick The Team And Let Them Do The Rest. The Players Are There But Can't Do The Basics Right.

One Man Up Top And Constantly Booting It Up Field Hoping To Find Him. Players Need It Into Feet, But Half Of Them Act Like They Don't Want It.

Alexis Piper Should Play Up Top To Win These Balls And Let Craig (Who I Thought Was Excellent And Ran For 90 Minutes) Do The Rest. A Little And Large Combination.

Jim - Mangrotfield - Got That Right F**king S**thole !

My Comment Was " Although Myself A Bit Bemused By Certain Tactics Today " - Therefore Agreeing With You.

The Problem Is You've Got So Used To Having Your Defences Up And Slating Every Comment Regardless Of Content You Can't Keep An Open View.

In Relation To The Other Comment. " They Can't Do The Basics Right "

The Fact That They’ve Drawn 3 - 3 With Totton After Being Behind 3 Times And Been 2 Up Against Andover And Thatchem Proves They Can Do It.

Unlike Bracknell Who Are Being Drubbed 8 & 9's - Every Week.

In a word, NO! I suppose we could give them the benefit of the doubt and say it's a confidence issue, but I think that is being overly generous.

We gave away cheap possession today, nobody looked like they wanted the ball and we were underhitting five yard bloody passes.

I don't think it's a secret that the players we have aren't good enough. The difference is a poor side that battles and fights and gives their all can still achieve results. (3-3 against Totton for example) Today, they didn't fight, they didn't even look interested and that shows up the shortcomings all the more.

Danny Lane actually looked a decent bet at centre back until the sending off, although I actually think he could have gone for the first challenge. Meaker though, might be 38 but you don't lose quality and he's got it.

If we had two or three experienced heads that could nurture the rest of them we might have half a chance, but we have zero experience on that pitch.

I am quite depressed tonight, lots of carling and miserable wallowing ahead.

Like Woody Has Said - We Can Do The Basics Right - Totton Etc - But To Often Don't.

The Same Scenario Arises In Relation To Killing Time And A Lack Of Naivety. Having Twice Been Two Up We Have Conceded In Quick Succession, But Not Looked To Kill The Game Off. Today Mangotsfield Did It At 1 - 0, While I Remember Paulton Doing The Same Thing At Our Place Earlier In The Year.

That’s Not Naivety Its Common Knowledge Which Players Don’t Seem To Be Putting Into Practice. Another Area Is The Lack Of Communication On The Field, For Example Today Craig Was Attempting To Hold The Ball Up, Yet Nobody Was Talking To Him Giving Options.

I Can Stand Players Not Being The Best, I Myself Play With Better Players Than Me, But Give More Effort Than Anyone Else To Make Up For It. No Offence Intended To Alexis Piper He May Not Be The Best Technically But Will Sure As Hell Work Hard For The Ball And Put His Body On The Line, Same As John Harris And James Clough.

The Problem Is Its Either The Same Few Or The Odd Individual Having A Good Game, Not The Team As A Whole.

Another Area That Must Be Raised Is Discipline. Today With The Little Scrap At The End Involving the Anthony’s - As Much As I Like Lloyd And He Is a Superb Keeper - Why The Hell Is He Running Half The Field To Get Involved, I Suppose It Shows He Cares, But Others Must Step In And Take Responsibility.

Something Missing All Over The Field. Lets Hope As And When Chris McGrath Is Fit He Will Bring Some Much Needed Stability And Experience To The Back Four, Because At The Moment Its Chaos And Panic Every Time The Ball Is Back There.

okay ive been critical of Taunton, but i agree with every single word woody has wrote in his post, despite not watching the last few games, as im going on the basis of the games I have watched and a little bit of experience a mark loram, lee groves , Gary fisher so when the going gets tough they know what to do and lead the younger players,

for example i play in a Saturday league and we have a few experienced players that give me a few pointers and advice on what to do and it works a treat, i think if we had an experienced centre midfielder i.e a Gary fisher type things would improve as macca (Chris Mcgrath) has enough experience already

Touche aston, touche. It sounds like the squad needs some experience. Fair play at bringing in young players and building a squad for the FUTURE, they have the energy, fitness and can be nurtured.......HOWEVER for Taunton though, the club is NOT in the position to start building a young inexperienced squad, especially if some players have just made the step up from leagues below or local leagues. If we were playing at a higher level like the conference then yea bring in a bit of 'potential' and nurture it. We shoulda learnt this by now! Although theres ment to be alot happening behind the scenes, it's blatantly not happening on the pitch. I understand westo believing his squad WILL 'EVENTUALLY' get results....and they will...but when? i know i'm wrong in predicting we will start to win if we bring in some experience because nothing will make em snap into playing and winning together all of a sudden. But in all fairness and in reality, unless we start winning NOW none of this will matter. Eventually players will leave, players will be scouted by higher clubs and it's back to the start again. I read in the gazette that the squad are very close, but then hear that they do not talk to each other enough?!? A bit more gelling and bonding sounds like it is needed, few pissups maybe?? I think this season, the aim is to definatly avoid relagation and upon doing so we can only hope that westos intentions of building a young squad pays off for next season. Hopefully the time they have been playing together, with what they learn (if anything) will give us a good team to compete next season, lets hope anyway.
